Eli Manning injury: Giants QB limps to locker room

Manning appeared to injure his ankle just before halftime against the Redskins.

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has limped off the field with an ankle injury against the Washington Redskins and has been taken to the locker room. There's been no official word on the severity of the injury or whether he will return to the game.

UPDATE: Manning has been ruled out with an ankle sprain and will not return, according to Dan Graziano of ESPN.

Curtis Painter started the second half under center for the Giants.

Manning appeared to hurt his ankle late in the second quarter when a defender rolled over his legs. Manning was limping after the play but stayed in. On the following play, his pass was tipped and intercepted and he left the field limping badly. He was promptly taken back into the locker room for further evaluation.

Manning’s final play serves as a fitting end to a disappointing season. The pick was his 27th of the year, which is the fourth-higest single-season total since 1984. Both his first and last passes of the season were interceptions.

Making matters worse for the Giants, two of their top receiving threats have also left the game. Hakeem Nicks has been ruled out after getting tangled up with a defender on a play in which he was called for offensive pass interference. Rueben Randle has an ankle injury and will not return, according to Graziano.

Top receiver Victor Cruz was placed on injured reserve earlier in the week.
