The San Diego Chargers needed to beat the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in order to make the playoffs, and they got a little help from KC kicker Ryan Succop in regulation and then the officials in order to get there. First came a missed chip shot from Succop that would have won it for Kansas City. Then the Chargers' first drive of OT stalled quickly and they had to punt. Except with their season on the line, they didn't.
Chargers use fake punt against Chiefs in OT to stay alive for playoff berth
San Diego going all out.
Eric Weddle took the direct snap just barely past the line of scrimmage, with the play being whistled dead just before the ball was stripped and nearly returned for a touchdown. Amazingly, the play was not reviewed and San Diego quickly moved to the line of scrimmage to continue on to what would eventually be a game-winning field goal. The people of Pittsburgh can look back on this play if they're looking to ignite a little bit of controversy.
