Maurice Jones-Drew not interested in incentive-laden contract

Jones-Drew is hoping to receive another long-term deal, whether that’s with the Jaguars or not.

On Sunday Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew played the final game of the five-year contract he signed in 2009, and he's looking to receive another long-term deal before his career is through, according to Mark Long of The Associated Press.

Jones-Drew, 28, is reportedly uninterested in receiving a smaller, incentive-laden deal despite a recent drop in production and a rash of injuries. After three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons that earned him Pro Bowl trips, a foot injury cost him the majority of his 2012 season and he averaged a career-worst 3.4 yards per carry in 2013.

Still, after eight seasons in the NFL, Jones-Drew is younger than 30 and has the career numbers of an elite running back. On Monday, Jones-Drew told reporters that he hopes to stay in Jacksonville, where he has spent his entire career, but admitted that money will ultimately dictate his team in 2014.

A second-round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft, Jones-Drew has 8,071 yards rushing in his career with 68 touchdowns on the ground, 11 receiving and two on kick returns. Jones-Drew is scheduled to become a free agent on March 11 when unrestricted free agency begins.
