Willie Colon injury: Jets guard tore biceps against Dolphins

Willie Colon is facing a lengthy recovery process, just as he is hitting free agency.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Willie Colon was seemingly upset and avoided reporters Sunday and Monday following the New York Jets' win over the Miami Dolphins in Week 17. According to Rich Cimini at ESPN New York, Colon's silence was due to a torn biceps that he suffered during the game.

The injury comes at a bad time for Colon, who will become an unrestricted free agent on March 11. Per Cimini, recovery time for the injury could extend into the start of the free agency period.

Colon was an effective player for the Jets. He rated as the 37th best guard in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus, playing 16 games on the right side of the line. Colon helped pave the way for a strong running attack that ranked sixth in the NFL at 134.9 yards per game and averaged a healthy 4.4 yards per carry.

Colon, 30, spent to first six years of his career playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In his two seasons prior to 2013, he missed 19 games due to injuries. Colon tore his triceps in Week 1 of the 2011 season and was subsequently placed on injured reserve.
