Aaron Rodgers injury: Packers QB ruled out for Sunday, Matt Flynn to start

Rodgers will sit out once again when the Packers take on the Falcons on Sunday.

Andrew Weber-USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Rodgers has been ruled out for Sunday's matchup between the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons, the Packers announced Friday. Rodgers returned to practice Thursday off a broken collarbone, but Matt Flynn continued to take first-team reps.

Rodgers' return to practice should give Packers fans some hope that he can play Week 15 in what could be a pivotal game against the Dallas Cowboys. The Packers are in the deep rough of the NFC playoff picture at 5-6-1 overall, but a timely win streak could easily thrust them back into relevance if they receive a few breaks elsewhere.

The Packers have struggled mightily since Rodgers went down in Week 9. Heading into a matchup against the Bears, the Packers were 5-2 and in firm control of the NFC North. Since they have gone 0-4-1 with Seneca Wallace and Scott Tolzien taking turns at quarterback before Flynn re-took the reins.

The Packers are reeling after a 40-10 loss to the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. During the game, Flynn went just 10 for 20 passing for 139 yards and one interception. The Packers are facing a bad Falcons team this weekend, but a repeat performance from Flynn means a sixth straight week without a win.
