Adrian Peterson injury: Initial X-rays negative, Vikings RB expects to play again this season

Peterson will undergo an MRI on Monday after initial tests on his sprained foot came up promising.

Evan Habeeb-USA TODAY Sports

Early X-rays on Adrian Peterson's strained foot came up negative and the reigning NFL MVP says the injury is not season-ending, according to ESPN.

A Monday MRI will determine the extent of the mid-foot sprain the Minnesota Vikings running back suffered on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, but Peterson said after the game he doesn't expect it to sideline him for the remainder of 2013.

“Not at all. You should’ve seen me in here, trying to get back out there,” Peterson said. “I kept my pads on throughout most of the third quarter, until I finally was like, ‘I’m not going to be able to go.’

“I’m just going to get the MRI done tomorrow, see what it says, and try to push to be ready to play.”

Peterson suffered the injury while extending a play early in the second quarter of the Vikings’ 29-26 loss. He was helped off the field by medical staff and was later carted into the locker room for further evaluation. He did not return to the game.
