The Indianapolis Colts have placed running back Chris Rainey on Injured Reserve and signed Tashard Choice to replace him, according to Adam Schefter.
Colts sign Tashard Choice, place Chris Rainey on IR
Choice will fill Rainey’s role as the third-string running back.

Choice, who was released by the Buffalo Bills last week, will fill Rainey's role as the third-string back behind Donald Brown and Trent Richardson. He had 35 carries for 126 yards this season in in a similar role in Buffalo, where he spent the past two years. He was originally drafted in the fourth round in 2008 by the Cowboys and spent his first three seasons in Dallas.
Rainey joins Ahmad Bradshaw, Vick Ballard and Daniel Herron as the fourth Colts running back to be designated to the IR this season.
Rainey played mostly on special teams, and its unlikely that Choice will be much more involved in the offense. That being said, there are plenty of carries to go around in Chuck Pagano’s power running system, especially if Richardson -- who the Colts gave up a first-round pick for earlier this season -- continues his disappointing performance.
