Steelers’ play-calling exposes rift between Ben Roethlisberger, Todd Haley

Ben Roethlisberger isn’t happy with the Steelers’ play-calling and exposed as much after a Week 14 loss to the Miami Dolphins.

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

The Pittsburgh Steelers dropped another game on Sunday and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger struggled to hide his frustrations with the play-calling of offensive coordinator Todd Haley after the loss.

In the game, Roethlisberger completed 23-of-39 passes for 349 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions, earning a 114.2 passer rating. However, the team ran the ball just 15 times with rookie running back Le'Veon Bell for 61 yards and five combined carries for veterans Jonathan Dwyer and Felix Jones.

Haley, 46, took over as offensive coordinator of the Steelers in 2012 after he was fired from his position as head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, where he served from 2009-11. The Steelers finished 2012 with the 26th-ranked rushing offense and rank 31st in 2013.

Roethlisberger was also asked after the game if he thought the Steelers should be rebuilt, which he declined to answer. A first-round selection in the 2004 NFL Draft, Roethlisberger has previously been the subject of controversy about his long-term place with the team, although he has said that he is willing to restructure his contract to stay with the team.
