Kyle Rudolph placed on Vikings’ injured reserve list

Rudolph broke a bone in his foot in early November and will not return in the last three weeks of the season.

A broken bone in the foot of Minnesota Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph has proven season-ending, as the team placed the third-year player on injured reserve Monday, according to Adam Caplan of Sirius XM Radio.

Rudolph, 24, suffered the injury on a 31-yard touchdown grab against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 and did not return to the game. It was later reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports that Rudolph suffered a broken bone in his foot, although his recovery was estimated at 4-6 weeks.

In Rudolph's absence the team has gone 2-2-1, but now sits at 3-9-1 following a loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. With playoff hopes now firmly out of reach, Rudolph's long-term health and availability in 2014 are likely a higher priority to the team than his contributions in the final three weeks of the season.

A second round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, Rudolph has tallied 15 career touchdowns and had 30 receptions for 313 yards and three touchdowns in the first eight games of the season before suffering the injury.
