Adrian Peterson injury update: Vikings RB expects to play on Sunday

Peterson was carted off on Sunday, but expects to be ready to play in Week 15.

An MRI revealed no torn ligaments and no Lisfranc injury for Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and now the five-time Pro Bowler expects to play in Week 15, one week after he was carted off the field with a lower leg injury, according to a report from ESPN's SportsCenter.

Peterson, 28, was carted off in a snowy game against the Baltimore Ravens and was ruled out for the remainder of the game. When initial x-rays came back negative, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that it was a mid-foot sprain for Peterson.

While Peterson will still undergo a CT scan to rule out fractures, the news is overwhelmingly positive after many feared the worst at the time of the injury.

A first round selection in the 2007 NFL Draft, Peterson has accumulated 10,070 career yards and 86 rushing touchdowns, including 2,097 yards in the 2012 season that came just eight yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's 1984 record for rushing yards in a single season.

Peterson has tallied 1,221 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground for the Vikings in 2013, although the team is 3-9-1 and officially eliminated from the postseason.
