NFC South injury report, Week 14: Jonathan Stewart has a torn MCL

Carolina lost control of the NFC South on Sunday and may have lost Jonathan Stewart for the rest of the season.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans is back atop the NFC South after beating Carolina and the Saints may also be the healthiest team in the division. Carolina might be without a running back for the season while Atlanta and Tampa Bay also have players in question. Here is a complete look at the injury situation in the NFC South.

Atlanta:

Sean Weatherspoon injured his shoulder on Sunday, but returned to the game. He intercepted a pass after coming back on the field, and returned it 71 yards for a touchdown. Free safety Thomas DeCoud suffered a concussion during the game and did not return. Tony Gonzalez was able to play despite a toe injury and finished the game with three catches for 25 yards.

Carolina:

Carolina will likely be without Jonathan Stewart for an extended period of time after the running back suffered a torn MCL on Sunday against New Orleans. The injury was initially reported as a “knee contusion” before Ron Rivera confirmed the torn ligament on Monday. Stewart hasn’t been ruled out of the rest of the season, but will likely miss at least a few weeks.

New Orleans:

The Saints took control of the NFC South and managed to get through the week without any major injuries. Zach Strief and Brodrick Bunkley were both active for the game and returned to the lineup. The Saints will head into their Week 15 matchup with St. Louis relatively healthy, especially at this point in the season.

Tampa Bay:

Tampa Bay took a pair of hits on the offensive line in Week 14 with starting center Jeremy Zuttah and starting guard Davin Joseph both dealing with shoulder injuries. The status of both players will be determined late in the week and head coach Greg Schinao said Ted Larsen could start at either center or guard if Zuttah or Joseph are unavailable.

Defensive linemen William Gholston suffered a concussion and will go through the NFL's protocol before being cleared to return.
