Bob McNair hopeful about Houston’s 2017 Super Bowl bid

Will Super Bowl LI be held at Reliant Stadium? Bob McNair is confident in Houston’s chances.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Texans chairman and CEO Bob McNair wants the 2017 Super Bowl to come to his city, and with just a few months left before the final vote is cast, he remains hopeful about Houston’s chances. NFL owners with meet in Boston this May to determine if Reliant Stadium will play host to its second Super Bowl.

Houston will face the runner-up from 2016 Super Bowl finalists. San Francisco and Miami are both vying for Super Bowl L. The 49ers are currently constructing their new Santa Clara Stadium, which should be an attractive venue for the largest stage in football.

McNair knows his city can compete with the best.

“I don’t think there’s any doubt that here in Houston, we can put on a Super Bowl and do every bit as good or better than anyone else,” McNair said. “I have no doubt about that. I think that other owners are starting to look at it on the basis that Houston deserves another Super Bowl. Hopefully, they’ll make that decision affirmatively on the 2017 Super Bowl. I’ve talked to them and solicited their support, and I think we’re going to have a great group working for the Super Bowl, and I think that’ll be impressive, too, for the owners.”

The Patriots defeated the Panthers 32-29 back in 2004 at Reliant Stadium, the last Super Bowl Houston hosted. McNair believes the numerous reviews praising Houston’s efforts will bode well for their chances for 2017.
