As the focus in the NFL shifts to the NFL Draft, all eyes are on the Kansas City Chiefs. Kansas City holds the No. 1 overall pick and while many think the Chiefs will take a quarterback first, the Chiefs are still working to finalize their draft board.
Chiefs GM John Dorsey talks NFL Draft, Matt Cassel
Many predict the Chiefs will take a quarterback with the No. 1 pick, but general manager John Dorsey said the team is yet to even evaluate the quarterbacks in the draft.

In an appearance on the NFL Network, Chiefs general manager John Dorsey said the team has yet to evaluate the quarterbacks in the draft and won’t begin evaluations until Friday or Saturday of this week. Instead, Dorsey said, the team is nearing the end of draft evaluation and building the draft board.
“We’re in the final stages of our 15-day process of evaluating and building our college draft board,” Dorsey said. “We’re beginning to take those series of steps necessary to make those important decisions with regards to this first pick.”
While many are focused on who the Chiefs will take with the No. 1 pick, Dorsey downplayed the magnitude of the decision. Instead, he said all decisions he makes are very important as the Chiefs attempt to build depth and a competitive training camp roster.
When it comes to adding depth through free agency, Dorsey said the Chiefs are finalizing their plan, but will be very selective in free agency.
“We should have a plan in place by the time the Combine rolls around here next week,” he said.
Kansas City will also need to decide on the future of quarterback Matt Cassel. Cassel is owed $7 million next season and, as Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride wrote, Dorsey didn't exactly say much about Cassel's future. When asked if he could see Cassel as Kansas City's starting quarterback next season, Dorsey didn't offer much insight.
“I think Matt Cassel has demonstrated the skill to play in the National Football League,” Dorsey said.
In addition to Cassel, the Chiefs also have to make a decision on wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. Bowe is scheduled to be a free agent again this offseason. Dorsey said the team still needs to finalize its free agency plan, but said everyone knows Bowe is a talented player.
