Eagles hire Tom Gamble as VP of Player Personnel

The Eagles bolstered their front office on Wednesday with the hiring of Tom Gamble as the vice president of player personnel.

The Philadelphia Eagles made a major acquisition on Wednesday and it didn't involve adding a player to the roster. Instead, Philadelphia hired Tom Gamble, formerly the director of player personnel in San Francisco as it's vice president of player personnel.

Gamble, who is considered to be one of the top up-and-coming executives in the NFL, played a major role in building the current 49ers roster. Gamble has 25 years of NFL experience, including the last eight seasons in San Francisco. He began his career with the Eagles as an assistant in the personnel department.

Prying Gamble away from the 49ers is a major coupe for the Eagles as Gamble was a candidate for several general manager openings this offseason. He’s worked in both college and pro personnel departments, working his way up from an assistant to director of player personnel.

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said Gamble will fill the role created when Ryan Grigson left to become the Colts general manager last season.

“Since Ryan Grigson left to become the General Manager of the Colts, we’ve been looking for the right person to fill his spot and we are excited about what Tom can bring to the team,” Roseman said in a release from the team.

In addition to his stops in Philadelphia and San Francisco, the 49-year-old Gamble also spent time with the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts.
