The Buffalo Bills terminated the contract of cornerback Terrence McGee on Thursday, making the corner and talented return man a free agent for the first time in 10 years, according to Brian Galliford at Buffalo Rumblings.

After 10 seasons in Buffalo, the Bills terminated the contract of cornerback Terrence McGee on Thursday. The 32-year-old corner will now look to take his coverage and return skills elsewhere.

Since becoming a fourth-round pick in the 2003 draft out of Northwestern State. McGee has been the most prolific return man in the Bills’ franchise history. He has also made 519 tackles, sacked the opposing quarterback three times, defensed 89 passes and picked off 17 passes, returning one of them for a touchdown. He also forced three fumbles and recovered one for a touchdown. As a kick returner, he racked up 5,450 return yards and five touchdowns.
McGee has more recently been injury prone, missing 32 games over the last four seasons. He hasn’t played in all 16 games in a season since 2004, which was the only season in which he was active for all 16 games.
McGee was due a $1.75 million contract as well as a $350,000 roster bonus for the 2013 season, and his released clears $4.46 million off the books.
Bills general manager Buddy Nix thanked McGee in a statement on Thursday for his contributions over the last decade.
“Terrence has been a contributor to the Bills organization for 10 years and we thank him for his efforts on the field and off,” Nix said. “We wish him the best of luck in the future.”
McGee will join a fairly deep and talented pool of free agent cornerbacks, including players like Adam Jones, Terence Newman, Brent Grimes, Aqib Talib and Tracy Porter. If McGee could prove that he's healthy enough to contribute for a whole season, he could land a decent one or two-year contract with a team looking to add depth to their secondary.
