Dan Roushar hired by Saints as RB coach

According to sources, the New Orleans Saints hired Michigan State’s Dan Roushar to be their new running backs coach.

US PRESSWIRE

On Saturday, Michigan State offensive coordinator Dan Roushar has been hired by the New Orleans Saints, per Hondo Carpenter.

Roushar bring 27 years of coaching experience to the table, having started with Butler in 1986. For almost three decades, he worked his way through the college ranks, working with all types of offensive position groups. However, his only stint as a running backs coach came in 2003-2004 when he coached the Illinois Fighting Illini.

He will be inheriting a versatile group of runners in New Orleans that have failed to reach their true potential. These are players with high ceilings, and some have gone beyond expectations at times. With Roushar, the Saints will look to see if they can find the proper balance and utilization of Darren Sproles, Mark Ingram and Chris Ivory.

The Saints have had to rely on the arm of Drew Brees more than they’d like, so a revitalization of the running back corps seems to be in order. If Roushar can help get this group into the multi-faceted set of runners they were in years prior, the Saints could be in Super Bowl contention again.
