Tampa Bay defensive end Da’Qaun Bowers was arrested at LaGuardia Airport on Monday after police found he was illegally carrying a handgun, according to a report from NBC New York.

According to the report, the 22-year-old Bowers was arrested at a check-in counter after it was discovered he had a loaded .40 caliber firearm in his carry-on bag. Bowers was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday night.
Bowers, who just finished his second season with the Buccaneers, was set to board a US Airways flight from New York to Raleigh, North Carolina. A spokesman for the Buccaneers said Bowers is declining to comment on the incident as the organization investigates.
Tampa Bay drafted Bowers with the No. 51 pick of the 2011 NFL Draft. He’s played in 26 games during his two seasons, mostly in a backup role. He’s recorded 4.5 sacks during his two seasons.
