Jackson did not receive a signing bonus for his new deal and none of the contract is guaranteed. Jackson’s base salary is $1.25 million with a $450k roster bonus and a $50k workout bonus, totaling $1,75 million, which will also be his cap number for 2013. When it was first announced that Jackson re-signed with Buffalo, it was reported that the deal was worth up to $4.5 million, but that initial report was far off from the actual numbers.
Last season Jackson did not throw a single pass, but new Bills coach Doug Marrone has informed Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick that there will be an open competition for the starting job. Jackson played most of the 2011 season as the starting quarterback in Seattle, where he posted a 79.2 rating.
