NFL Combine 2013: Ryan Grigson describes weekend as ‘ultimate job interview’ for prospects

Colts general manager Ryan Grigson highly values the 15-minute interviews he conducts with prospects at the NFL Combine and believes they are as important as any other part of the process.

Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson places high value on the 15-minute interviews he gets to conduct with prospects at the NFL Combine. While some NFL coaches and executives believe they offer little information, in an interview with Craig Kelly on the Colts website Grigson said, "the formal interviews we conduct are as important as anything done at the combine."

The argument against the value of the interviews is that players have too much time to prepare for such a short interview and only offer canned responses to the questions they receive. Grigson understands that players can be prepped for the interviews, but he tries to get them to ditch the canned responses and open up. “We want guys to drop the BS at the door and let us in to who and what they are,” he said.

Grigson believes the interview process is one of the most underrated aspects of the combine and takes them very seriously.

“Just sitting and listening to a prospect speak and tell you about themselves and also see how they respond to tough questions we may throw their way (is valuable). It’s the ultimate job interview.”

The combine begins on Wednesday, Feb. 20 and runs through Tuesday, Feb. 26.
