Da’Quan Bowers arrest: Buccaneers DL faces uncertain future

After posting $10,000 bond, the future is uncertain for Buccaneers defensive end Da’Quan Bowers, who faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive end Da'Quan Bowers was released from jail on $10,000 bond after his gun arrest in New York according to a report from Pewter Report, but may have a tough time to keep from returning to prison.

Bowers will have to deal with the strict gun laws of New York City, the same laws that saw Plaxico Burress jailed for two years after accidentally shooting himself. The Buccaneers defensive end was arrested with a loaded .40 caliber gun in his carry-on bag at LaGuardia Airport. He had reportedly forgotten about the gun and notified the airport authorities himself, but he still faces two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, the same charge Burress was facing before pleading down.

It is possible that Bowers could end up being charged with third-degree possession instead of second degree; third-degree possession carries a far lesser penalty. The initial court date for the case is scheduled for April 25, but the process could easily drag on through the entire 2013 season.
