Mike Adams hopes to start in 2nd season with Steelers

Tackle Mike Adams hopes to become a starter in his second season with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Jason Bridge-US PRESSWIRE

After going through the usual ups and downs of a rookie season in the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Mike Adams hopes to earn a starting role in his second season. "Starting is definitely where I see myself and that is my goal," Adams told Teresa Varley of Steelers.com.

Adams started six games last season when right tackle Marcus Gilbert was out with a knee injury. Aside from the growing pains that should be expected for most rookie linemen, Adams acquitted himself well. In Week 12 against the Browns, Adams suffered an ankle injury that ended his season, but he is healthy again and ready to compete for a starting job.

"For me it's about improving on everything, especially the little things," Adams said of his work to become a starter. With left tackle Max Starks entering free agency, Adams hopes he can impress the coaches enough to fill that role, but he is ready to play at any position. "Everyone has a preference of where they want to play. I played left tackle all through college. Whatever side it is I am fine with. I just want to play some ball."

Adams has more goals than just becoming a starter, with some individual recognition coming to mind, saying, “that is always a goal, All Pro and Pro Bowl. That should be a goal for every player.”
