Larry Foote, Steelers working on new contract

The Steelers need someone to rely on defensively, and bringing back Mr. Foote would go a long way toward that goal.

The Pittsburgh Steelers and veteran linebacker Larry Foote are working on a new deal, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

On Tuesday morning, Foote told a local radio show that he and the team are in negotiations but there is nothing set in stone yet.

“[The Steelers] and my agent have been talking back and forth. I guess it’s a money thing right now,” Foote said.

Foote has been a very productive player throughout his career and continued to be in 2012. The Detroit native made 113 tackles to finish second on the Steelers along with forcing two fumbles and providing leadership. The 113 stops is the most Foote has had in a season during his 11-year career.

Pittsburgh has a ton of uncertainty on its defense for the first time in many moons. Outside linebackers LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison both disappointed last year while Lawrence Timmons was inconsistent and Troy Polamalu was hurt more often than not.

Signing Foote would provide some stability while the defense undergoes a bit of a remodel via the draft and free agency.
