NFL Draft 2013: Landry Jones shows ‘no consistency’, according to Mike Mayock

Once viewed as a potential first round pick, Landry Jones’ draft stock has fallen and inconsistency is a big reason why.

Following his sophomore season at Oklahoma, Landry Jones was widely viewed as one of the top quarterbacks in college football and not only a potential first round pick, but a candidate to be a future No. 1 overall pick. Two up-and-down seasons later, Jones' stock has dropped considerably and inconsistency is a big reason why.

NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said Jones, like many quarterbacks in the 2013 NFL Draft, lacks consistency. Mayock said there are certain games where Jones looks like a first round pick and others where he plays like a fifth round pick. The talent is obvious, but as Mayock said, Jones fails to play at a high level on a week-to-week basis.

“I’m struggling with him,” Mayock said, according to BuffaloBills.com. “I think ‑‑ I know he can make all the throws. I’ve seen him make all the throws, but like a lot of this year’s quarterbacks, there is no consistency with this kid.”

Inconsistent play has been an issue for a while with Jones. In October, ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay said he had never seen a quarterback with Jones’ ability be so inconsistent with his confidence in the pocket. Jones has worked to improve his stock, including a nice performance at the Senior Bowl, but remains below the top quarterbacks in the draft. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar ranked Jones as the No. 10 quarterback in the 2013 draft.
