Patrick Peterson coulde receive offensive snaps, Bruce Arians says

New Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians says he could use defensive star Patrick Peterson on offense.

USA TODAY Sports

In 2012 the Arizona Cardinals finished dead last in total offense; a problem coach Bruce Arians hopes to fix in his first year. One idea Arians mentioned on Thursday was using cornerback Patrick Peterson on offense.

This isn't a brand new idea as Peterson has seen some offensive snaps under the regime of former coach Ken Whisenhunt. Last season Peterson had three receptions for 11 yards and ran twice for 13 yards. The biggest offensive play of his NFL career was a 17-yard run in the Cardinals Week 2 victory over the Patriots.

Peterson is always a threat with the ball in his hands, as a rookie he returned four punts for touchdowns, so it makes sense that Arians would look for more ways to get him the ball in open space. Peterson was not as deadly of a punt returner in 2012 as he was his rookie year, but the skills are still there. Arians did not give any indication as to what types of packages he would consider using Peterson in on offense.

In addition to finishing last in the NFL in yardage, the Cardinals finished second-to-last in scoring offense and Arians will be looking at a number of ways to get them moving again beyond just the use of Peterson.
