NFL rumors: Reggie Bush is ‘primary target’ for Lions

It is believed that the Detroit Lions will make a serious run at signing free agent running back Reggie Bush.

USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are expected to make running back Reggie Bush a primary target in free agency according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free-Press. Bush, who spent the last two years with the Dolphins, is reportedly seeking $7-8 million per year; he previously made $5 million per season with Miami.

The Dolphins have interest in Bush returning, but it doesn't look like the two sides will reach an agreement. Detroit is interested in Bush for his playmaking and pass-catching abilities, despite his injury history. Over the past several offseasons, the Lions have targeted offensive talent to give Matthew Stafford more weapons and the signing of Bush would certainly do just that.

Detroit would need to free more cap space before being able to near Bush’s salary request, which is a high number for an oft-injured player, but many NFL insiders still have the Lions as the front-runners to land Bush. Last season Bush ran for 986 yards and caught 35 passes for 292 yards. Several Lions have openly recruited Bush, but it remains to be seen what moves the front office will make.
