Cullen Jenkins frustrated by years with Eagles

Hulking defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins is disappointed with his time in Philadelphia.

Rob Carr

Defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins came to the Philadelphia Eagles as part of the so called "Dream Team" in 2011, with expectations through the roof.

Jenkins was just one high-profile player that was acquired before that season, with a few of the others being cornerbacks Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha, quarterback Vince Young and defensive end Jason Babin.

Speaking on 97.5 FM, The Fanatic in Philadelphia, the recently released Jenkins talked about just how tough it was for him over the past couple of seasons.

“It was rough. It was definitely a couple of the hardest years I’ve had in my career. Just so much expectations coming into a team that had such a great tradition and bringing in so many good players and people who they thought or were expected to perform and do well, and we weren’t able to accomplish anything. So it was definitely a disappointing two years.”

Jenkins has enjoyed a terrific career, winning a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2010. Now, the defensive lineman is looking for work after being sent packing by the Eagles, who are in the middle of a transition with head coach Andy Reid being fired and Chip Kelly replacing him.

Jenkins looks back and thinks he knows why his time in the city of brotherly love didn’t work out, per the interview:

"We didn’t jell together enough. You can’t just always bring in a bunch of superstars — people who think they’re superstars. You gotta have players that just know their role and go along with that and just do whatever they can to help the team. We just didn’t jell the way that we needed to jell to be a successful team."

In 2012, Jenkins totaled 26 tackles and four sacks. In his career, Jenkins has amassed 38.5 sacks.
