Josh Cribbs admits tampering in radio interview

Even if it’s assumed to be happening in free agency, players still need to keep quiet about it.

Free agent kick returner Josh Cribbs is drawing interest from several teams and apparently his agent is negotiating with those teams. Oops, we aren’t supposed to know that, Josh.

Teams can start negotiating with free agents next month but it is against the rules to start exchanging figures at this point in the offseason even though most assume that it’s done anyway and that’s why players will be signed as soon as it’s officially okay. Except that Cribbs told ESPN Radio in Cleveland that his agent has talked money with teams:

“My agent has been meeting with several different teams,” Cribbs said. “There is a lot of interest. There are already numbers brought to the table. Things are happening. Wheels are turning behind closed doors.”

While Cribbs, a former undrafted free agent out of Kent State, has failed to develop as much of a wide receiver, he should not have a hard time finding work as a kick and punt returner. The speed and shift veteran of eight years with the Cleveland Browns has twice been voted to the Pro Bowl and has returned eight kickoffs and three punts for touchdowns in his career.

He will probably be signed to a team very early when it is allowed. The only problem with it today; it’s not allowed just yet, Josh.
