Super Bowl bets: Alex Smith given 50/1 odds to win Super Bowl MVP

San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback Alex Smith has been given 50/1 odds to win the Super Bowl XLVII MVP award in what figures to be his final game in a San Francisco uniform.

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was in the middle of a career-year before he was concussed and eventually replaced as the team's starting quarterback by Colin Kaepernick. Should something happen to Kaepernick in Super Bowl XLVII, Jim Harbaugh and 49ers fans alike should have confidence in Smith, since he's proven he can have success with the 49ers already this season.

Odds makers in Las Vegas haven’t forgotten about Smith, giving San Francisco’s backup quarterback 50/1 odds to be named Super Bowl XLVII MVP. Of course, that would not only require Kaepernick being knocked out of the game because of injury, but it would also require a phenomenal effort from Smith off the bench.

Football fans and bettors rooting for Smith might consider throwing a modest $5 on him to be named Super Bowl MVP in hopes that the $5 bet would turn into $250 by the end of Sunday night.

By contrast, Kaepernick has been given 8/5 odds to capture the Super Bowl MVP award. Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has the second-highest odds at 11/4.
