Super Bowl 2013 MVP: Joe Flacco

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco was named MVP of Super Bowl XLVII.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII, and Joe Flacco was named Super Bowl MVP for his efforts. Flacco put up 287 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Ravens to their second Super Bowl win.

Flacco had 5/2 odds to win the MVP before the game. He is the sixth quarterback in the past decade to be named Super Bowl MVP.

Flacco started off hot and never really simmered down. He demonstrated incredible poise in the pocket, sitting back and making all the throws. And when the pressure got to him, Flacco adjusted and kept this offensive unit in forward motion.

The Ravens passing attack got off the ground early and remained consistent throughout the game. Much of this was to the credit of veteran receiver, Anquan Boldin. He was unstoppable at the point of the catch, simply beating the defensive backs to the ball. He was aggressive and precise with his route running.

He got the team on the board for the first score of the game with a 13-yard touchdown reception. He remained a threat for the duration of the game, particularly moving the chains. Flacco showed unlimited trust in Boldin to go up and make the catch.

Given that a quarterback is a favorite to win the MVP, it’s no surprise that Joe Flacco received this year’s honors.
