Ed Reed injury: Ravens safety heads to locker room

Ed Reed jogged to the locker room in the first quarter of Super Bowl XLVII.

Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed has left Super Bowl XLVII to head to the locker room after suffering an apparent left knee injury colliding with San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis. Davis was also hurt on the play. Both players returned to the game since the incident.

Reed, a likely Hall-of-Famer, is playing in his first Super Bowl and potentially his last game as a Raven. The lifelong Baltimore player — one of the most beloved athletes in the city — is an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

None of that matters now, of course. He’s in the locker room for further evaluation according to CBS’ Solomon Wilcots. The knee collided with Davis’ legs and appeared to bend the wrong way as it got caught in the turf. Reed has a history of playing through injury, so, unless there is something seriously wrong with his knee, don’t be surprised if he finds a way to make it back out there.
