2013 Super Bowl: 49ers Super Bowl championship gear shipped off to foreign countries

San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XLVII championship will be donated to World Vision, and distributed to underdeveloped countries throughout the world.

Admit it. As a fan, when your favorite team wins a championship, you can’t wait to get your hands on the latest championship memorabilia.

Baltimore Ravens fans are likely flocking to their local sports apparel store, or ordering Super Bowl XLVII championship t-shirts and hats online, while San Francisco 49ers fans are left wondering what could have been, after Sunday's thrilling Super Bowl.

Even though the 49ers lost, World Vision wins -- and in the eyes of World Vision, the 49ers are actually Super Bowl XLVII champions.

Each year, the NFL prints up championship gear for both Super Bowl participants. After all, the outcome often isn’t decided until the waning moments of the game, and the NFL has to have the championship hats and t-shirts ready for the players immediately following the game.

Likewise, retailers must be ready for whoever wins the game, as stores across the country want to be able to sell the latest championship gear -- especially if the store is located in or around the championship city.

Since the Ravens were victorious on Sunday, championship gear proclaiming the 49ers Super Bowl XLVII champions will be donated to World Vision, who will in turn distribute the clothing to underdeveloped countries, where the clothing is needed.

According to Business Week, World Vision will receive more than 100,000 articles of clothing to help those in underdeveloped countries -- and much of that clothing will proclaim San Francisco champions. The folks at World Vision’s distribution center in Pittsburgh sort the gear by gender and destination, enabling sweatshirts to be shipped to countries with cooler climates, and t-shirts to head to places with warmer climates -- such as Haiti or Chad.
