Dick Jauron interviews for Rams DC position

The Rams continue to search for a defensive coordinator and met with Dick Jauron who spent the last two seasons with the Browns.

The St. Louis Rams' search for a defensive coordinator continues and the latest candidate to emerge is former NFL head coach Dick Jauron. Jauron met with the Rams, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Jauron, who has nine years of NFL head coaching experience, spent the last two seasons as the defensive coordinator in Cleveland. Despite not getting much help from the offense, the Browns' defense had some success under Jauron. In Jauron's first season in Cleveland, the Browns improved from 13th in points per game allowed to fifth. Cleveland regressed some this season, finishing 19th in the league in scoring defense.

In addition to his most recent role with Cleveland, Jauron has also served as defensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions. He was the head coach of the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills and has worked in the NFL since 1985.

As a defensive coordinator, the strength of Jauron’s defenses tended to be in the passing defense. Cleveland finished second in passing yards allowed in 2011 -- the sixth time a Jauron defense has finished in the top 15. His defenses have also done a solid job of creating turnovers, finishing in the top 10 in turnovers five times. Jauron was not retained in Cleveland when the Browns fired head coach Pat Shurmur.

St. Louis is searching for a defensive coordinator after not retaining Gregg Williams, who was suspended last season. It appeared the Rams had found their man in Rob Ryan, but the two sides went separate ways over differences in scheme.
