Super Bowl 2013: Ravens parade turns Baltimore purple

The city of Baltimore was immersed in the color purple on Tuesday, as the city held a parade for the Super Bowl XLVII champions.

Few expected the Baltimore Ravens to defeat the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round of the NFL playoffs, and even fewer believed that the Ravens would make it to, and win, Super Bowl XLVII -- but they did, and the Baltimore Ravens are the champions of the NFL.

On Tuesday, the city of Baltimore held a parade for the Super Bowl champions, and fans from all over Maryland and adjacent states descended upon the city to celebrate the Ravens’ second world title in franchise history.

Fans over at Baltimore Beatdown, SB Nation’s Ravens blog, wrote about the parade in Baltimore, and compared the scene to one of The Beatles’ concerts.

As the coaches and players lined up at City Hall to address the crowd you could feel the emotion in the air as all the Ravens fans waited through hours of traffic and freezing temperatures just to catch a glimpse of their heroes. Ed Reed belted out a verse from Eddie Money’s “Two Tickets To Paradise” for the crowd and although he was off key and hard to listen to, so many fans had tears in their eyes as he sang.

It was a crazy scene, one that I have never seen before. Girls were crying and screaming like they were at their first Beatles concert.

If Super Bowl XLVII was the perfect game to end Ray Lewis' career, even if he didn't play well, then Baltimore's Super Bowl parade is the perfect sendoff for one of the best linebackers to ever play the game, with "emotion in the air."

No, the weather wasn’t perfect in Baltimore for the parade on Tuesday, but really, would it be any other way for this particular team?
