After serving a year-long suspension for his role in the New Orleans bounty scandal, Gregg Williams was reinstated by the NFL and hired by the Tennessee Titans.

Gregg Williams was reinstated by the NFL on Thursday, and officially hired by the Tennessee Titans as a senior assistant. He will aid Tennessee defensive coordinator Jerry Gray. Williams' official title with the Titans is "Special Assistant/Defense."

Williams was suspended for the entire 2012 season for his role in the New Orleans Saints' bounty scandal. The NFL's investigation into the bounty system revealed that Williams founded the system in New Orleans, offering players money for "cart-offs" and "knockouts."

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended Williams indefinitely, but the suspension was to last at least one year. Williams applied for reinstatement following the 2012 season, and was granted reinstatement on Thursday morning.

Prior to the suspension last year, Williams was hired by Jeff Fisher, and was supposed to serve as the St. Louis Rams' defensive coordinator.

Williams is now back in Tennessee, where he served as the Titans’ defensive coordinator between 1997-2000. Williams originally was hired by the Tennessee franchise when the Titans were in Houston, serving as a defensive assistant, special teams coach and linebackers coach between 1990-1996.

Following his first stint in Tennessee, Williams became the head coach of the Buffalo Bills between 2001-2003. Williams went 17-31 in three seasons with Buffalo, and his contract was not renewed following the 2003 season. Since then, Williams served as defensive coordinator for the Redskins, Jaguars and Saints.
