New head coach Bruce Arians and defensive coordinator Todd Bowles addressed the media on Thursday and Bowles indicated that he will keep the Cardinals in the 3-4 defense.

Don't expect new defensive coordinator Todd Bowles to make many changes to the Cardinals defense. In a press conference with head coach Bruce Arians, Bowles said the Cardinals will stay in a 3-4 base defense and that he won't make any dramatic changes to the defense.

The Cardinals played in a 3-4 scheme under former coordinator Ray Horton and their defense was the lone bright spot of their 2012 season, ranking 12th in total defense and 5th in passing defense. Horton was one of the final candidates for the head coach position in Arizona, but left for Cleveland after Arians was hired.

Bowles ran a 4-3 defense with the Eagles last season, but has experience with a 3-4 as well. Since the Cardinals have been developing their talent to fit a 3-4 scheme for some time, it makes since for Bowles to stick with the current base defense moving forward. The Cardinals have a lot of pieces in place to be one of the better defenses in the NFL and Bowles isn't looking to rock the boat.
