Browns free agency 2013: Cleveland chatting up big names

The Browns have plenty of issues, but at least enjoy the cap space to fill many of them.

The Cleveland Browns are one of the potential heavy hitters to watch in NFL free agency this offseason, with approximately $50 million in cap space.

This should come as welcome news to a fan base that used to cheer for Hall of Famers like Otto Graham, Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Paul Warfield and Ozzie Newsome, because this team needs a ton of help, especially on the offensive side of the ball.

Cleveland had one of the worst offenses in football last year with a rookie quarterback (albeit 29 years old) in Brandon Weeden and no wide receivers to speak of, ranking 25th in yards gained. With wide receiver Josh Cribbs all but gone to free agency, the position has to be on the top of new general manager Michael Lombardi's list.

However, the Browns have mostly been linked to some defensive names thus far, namely defensive ends Cliff Avril ( Detroit Lions) and Paul Kruger (Baltimore Ravens), along with linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, also of Baltimore, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cleveland is also looking into a bookend corner for Joe Haden, kicking the tires of Antoine Cason of the San Diego Chargers and Greg Toler from the Arizona Cardinals. It's surprising the new regime would look at either of these guys considering the amount of cap space the Browns have, with both thought of as average at best.

The Browns are searching the landscape for a new tight end, rumored to be interested in the Oakland Raiders' Brandon Myers and oft-injured Dustin Keller of the New York Jets.
