Jaguars rumors: Jacksonville reaches out to CB Derek Cox

Derek Cox is expected to have multiple suitors on the free agent market, but the Jaguars haven’t given up on re-signing him.

Jacksonville cornerback Derek Cox has already drawn interest from teams ahead of the start of the free agency period, but the Jaguars have also remained in contact with his agent, according to Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union.

Cox started 12 games for the Jaguars last season and is expected to have several suitors in free agency, despite a deep free agent cornerback market. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are one of the teams who showed interest in Cox already, according to NFL.com.

The Jaguars and Cox have been unable to work out an extension, but with free agency scheduled to begin on Tuesday, Jacksonville has maintained contact with Cox’s agent. However, that doesn’t mean much as Jacksonville is unlikely to outbid other teams for Cox.

The 26-year-old Cox would be a solid addition for the Buccaneers who are attempting to shore up their porous secondary. An earlier report indicated Cox could sign with Tampa Bay shortly after the free agency period begins.
