Elvis Dumervil and the Denver Broncos are reportedly at an impasse regarding the defensive end's current contract, according to the Denver Post. Agent Marty Magid said that Dumervil has requested that the team release him before the start of the 2013 NFL Free Agency period at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

Defensive end Elvis Dumervil has requested his release from the Denver Broncos after the two sides came to an impasse over how to restructure his contract.

“There’s no animosity, whatsoever,” Magrid said. “Elvis understands this is a business. He loves the Broncos and he’d still like to come back and play for the Broncos under his current contract or restructure proposal that we sent them.
“But if we can’t reach common ground and you know as an organization that you’re going to release him, then we’d like for them to release him by (2) p.m. tomorrow and not wait another four days. No hard feelings. We just disagree on their restructure option.”
The Broncos reportedly asked Dumervil to take a pay cut from the $12 million he is scheduled to make during the 2013 season. Dumervil and Magid countered with what was essentially a restructured deal, and the Broncos did not accept. With Dumervil still under contract, the Broncos can hang on to the defensive end until they find a suitable replacement on the free agent market.
Dumervil would immediately become one of the top free agents available after posting 11 sacks and six forced fumbles last season. Unfortunately for him, it could cost him some money if the Broncos delay his release, as organizations try to take care of team needs as early as they can early during the free agency period.
The Broncos released linebacker D.J. Williams and backup quarterback Caleb Hanie earlier in the day, as they try to create some more room under the salary cap. Mile High Report estimates that team has about $12 million in free space at the moment.
