Jason Hanson wants to kick again next season, provided he can work out a deal with the Detroit Lions, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today. Hanson has spent his entire 20-year career in Detroit, and will turn 43 in June. He is a free agent this offseason, coming off the end of a four-year, $7.9 million contract, and would likely take a pay cut.

Jason Hanson wants to kick again next season, but only with the Detroit Lions. The 20-year veteran remains one of the steadiest legs in the NFL.

Despite approaching retirement age, however, Hanson remains a very effective kicker. Last season he booted 32-of-36 field goal attempts between the uprights, including 18-of-22 past 40 yards, and 2-of-3 past 50. Hanson also hasn’t missed an extra point since 2008.
Hanson has made it clear that he has no delusions about his career. After the 2012 season, he admitted that he was “mentally beat up” and well aware that his time in the NFL is approaching its end. Hanson remains a fan favorite in Detroit, however, and if he still wants to play, then expect the Lions to work something out. According to Sean Yuille of the SB Nation blog Pride Of Detroit:
I can’t imagine money or the length of a contract would get in the way of negotiations on a new deal, so I fully expect Hanson to be re-signed here shortly. The main thing to take away from the tweet is that Hanson doesn’t have any interest in playing somewhere other than Detroit.
