Greg Toler signs with Colts, according to team

Indianapolis has not been quiet as free agency opened on Tuesday, with cornerback Toler being added to the mix.

USA TODAY Sports

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay has not been quiet on the Twitter, as usual. He's promised big moves for the Colts as free agency opened up on Tuesday, and apparently that now includes cornerback Gregory Toler. Indy has also announced the signings of tackle Gosder Cherilus and linebacker Erik Walden.

Toler, 28, has spent all four years of his career with the Arizona Cardinals after being a fourth round pick in 2009 out of St. Paul's. He started 13 games for the Cardinals in 2010, recording two interceptions and nine passes defensed, before missing all of 2011 with a knee injury. He returned to play in twelve games for Arizona in 2012 and he had the longest interception return of the season, taking one back 102 yards for a touchdown against the Lions in Week 14.

The Colts were a surprising 11-5 last season after finishing with the worst record in the NFL the year prior. However, they were still 26th in total defense, 21st in scoring defense, and 21st against the pass. Indianapolis traded for cornerback Vontae Davis before the season, but struggled to find consistency in the secondary. If healthy, Toler has the potential to be an above-average number two starting corner.

Indianapolis reportedly had the fourth-most cap space in the NFL however, and appears to just be getting started.
