Danny Woodhead and the San Diego Chargers have come to terms on a two-year deal, the team announced, ending the running back's three-year stint with the New England Patriots. The figures on Woodhead's deal have not been released.

Woodhead rushed 76 times for 301 yards and four touchdowns in 2012, but as is always the case with Woodhead, his versatility was his biggest asset. He added 40 receptions for 446 yards and three touchdowns to go along with excellent pass protection, earning 34.1% of the snaps in the Patriots’ backfield.
San Diego was a meager 27th in the NFL in rushing last season, and even worse in yards per attempt, checking in at 31st with 3.6 yards. The Chargers will hope Woodhead can give them a boost there, but Woodhead is there as much for what he can add to the passing game as the running game. The ability to plug Woodhead in anywhere, on any down, in any situation will be a nice addition to a San Diego team that could use more options.
The Patriots have a slew of running backs on the roster so their allowing Woodhead to walk isn't a surprise. Shane Vereen showed flashes of becoming a good option in the middle of the season and if New England believes he is ready to step into the backup role behind Stevan Ridley, it doesn't leave much room for Woodhead.
