Greg Jennings turned down offers from Packers, Patriots

Greg Jennings’ market value took a big hit from the 2012 to the 2013 offseason, but the Packers were still willing to shell out for their long-time wide receiver.

Greg Jennings is off to the Minnesota Vikings on a five-year contract that will pay him roughly $9 million per season. Contrary to popular belief, however, the wide receiver wasn't totally spurned by the Green Bay Packers. General manger Ted Thompson and Co. reportedly offered Jennings a deal worth $8 million per season. The New England Patriots were also apparently in the sweepstakes with a contract that averaged $6 million per season.

Even Jennings’ winning bid is far less than the roughly $15 million he was asking for during the 2012 offseason. He had just fallen 51 yards shy of his fourth-consecutive season with over 1,000 yards receiving in 2011, and was at the height of his bargaining power. Jennings struggled last season, however, playing in just eight games during the regular season due to a host of injuries. Perceived injury concerns may have played a large role in his declining value.

The Vikings were in desperate need of a quality wideout after trading Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks. Provided he stays healthy, Jennings should be an improvement over rolling into the season with Jarius Wright acting as the No. 1 wideout.
