Dolphins didn’t want to bring back Reggie Bush

He wanted to stay, but the Dolphins didn’t even make him an offer.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Dolphins did not offer Reggie Bush a contract to return to the Dolphins before he signed a four-year, $16 million deal with the Detroit Lions late last week.

Bush made his last appearance on behalf of the Dolphins at a Miami car dealership, and he said there the Dolphins did not approach him with a formal offer to return, according to Ben Volin of the Palm Beach Post.

“It’s just the nature of the business. You have to have a thick skin,” Bush said Saturday while fulfilling his final Dolphins-related obligation, an appearance at Wayne Akers Ford. “It’s an ugly side that sometimes we all don’t like, but we all have to face it some time.”

Bush was outspoken about his desire to stay in Miami, but instead he'll join quarterback Matt Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson on an intriguing Lions offense.

The Dolphins have signed wide receiver Mike Wallace and tight end Dustin Keller during the free-agency period that began Tuesday, and they're waiting for a decision from offensive tackle Jake Long, who is reported to be deciding between the Dolphins and the St. Louis Rams.
