New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan hopes Santonio Holmes will be ready for the season opener in September, 11 months after a Lisfranc injury sent the wide receiver to injured reserve in October of the 2012 season, he told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News on Tuesday.
Santonio Holmes injury update: Rex Ryan says goal is Week 1
Holmes was sent to injured reserve in October 2012 after suffering a Lisfranc injury.

Holmes, 29, agreed to restructure his contract with the Jets just prior to the NFL free agency period and helped to free up $3 million in cap space for the team. The new contract essentially ensured that Holmes will be with the team for the 2013 season, although Ryan didn’t rule out the necessity that Holmes is “eased in” during training camp.
In 2012, Holmes made just four starts before injury, finishing the season with 20 receptions, 272 yards receiving and one touchdown. In the season prior he played a full, 16-game season and finished with 51 receptions, 654 yards and eight receiving yards.
The Jets acquired Holmes prior to the 2010 NFL Draft from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a fifth-round selection.
