Browns owner Jimmy Haslam helps Jim Brown make peace with franchise

Jim Brown will soon have a new role with Cleveland after owner Jimmy Haslam helped reconcile with the Hall of Fame running back.

Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Jim Brown was demoted during the Mike Holmgren era in Cleveland, ultimately leading to his resignation in 2010. Now with Jimmy Haslam at the helm as owner of the Browns, he plans on making Brown an important part of the franchise once again.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer, Haslam has reached out to Brown to help mend the broken relationship between Cleveland and the Hall of Fame running back. Holmgren pushed Brown aside during his tenure, but Haslam is bringing him back.

“Jim Brown and I have spent a lot of time together,” he said. “We spent about an hour together last night, and I think we’ve established a really good relationship and I think sometime over the next two or three weeks we’ll formalize that relationship and Jim will play the appropriate role with the Cleveland Browns.”

Brown’s new position with the Browns was not revealed, but Haslam said it would be announced in the next couple of weeks. In prior years, Brown served as a consultant and player liaison for the team.

Cleveland fans should be pleased to have Brown back in the picture. He’s an iconic part of the franchise, and it’s good to see the two sides on good terms again.
