That the Eagles are looking at rookie quarterbacks perhaps says something about how Kelly envisions the future of the organization. Michael Vick isn't getting much younger, and though Nick Foles played well at time during his seven game appearances last season, he does not possess the mobility that Kelly typically prized among his quarterbacks at Oregon.
Manuel’s skill-set could potentially fit Kelly’s spread offense, or at least his NFL adaptation of it, very well. Even at 6’5, 238 pounds, Manuel has been lauded with the speed he pairs with great strength as a runner. Back in February, ESPN draft expert Todd McShay even deemed Manuel the best read-option quarterback in the 2013 draft class.
Manuel currently ranks as SB Nation’s No. 7 quarterback prospect overall, and given his unique physicality, a Day 2 selection in April is certainly a possibility.
