NFL Draft 2013: Chiefs work out Florida DL Sharrif Floyd

Kansas City is weighing all of its options with the No. 1 overall pick and is taking a look at Floyd on Monday.

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have the first overall pick in the upcoming draft on April 25 and have been spending the last few weeks going around the country to see all the top prospects in person.

On Monday, they checked out Florida Gators defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd, according to the Chiefs official twitter.

Floyd is a player many believe will be off the board within the first three selections

Floyd is the type of player who can play a multitude of positions on the defensive line in either a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme. Since Kansas City runs the 3-4, Floyd would be put on one of the ends alongside second-year nose tackle Dontari Poe.

The one knock on Floyd is his somewhat average arm length, making it harder for him to disengage defenders. However, his athletic prowess and high motor offset that issue.

At 300 pounds, Floyd can push the pocket and stuff the run.

It's somewhat unlikely Kansas City would take Floyd considering its situation. The Chiefs released right tackle Eric Winston a few weeks ago and are rumored to be looking for a trade partner to deal their franchise-tagged left tackle Branden Albert.

Whether or not Albert goes, the hole at right tackle and long-term answer on the left side are still in doubt, making Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher their most-likely targets.

Of course, the Chiefs could also trade back and acquire more picks without surrendering any players. The Jacksonville Jaguars sit right behind Kansas City and are rumored to be smitten with quarterback Geno Smith.

For a team like the Arizona Cardinals or Buffalo Bills to move up and get him, they would need to swap picks with the Chiefs, likely netting them a second-round pick.
