Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III says he's ahead of schedule as he knee continues to progress, according to Trey Wingo of ESPN.
RGIII injury update: Redskins QB says he’s still ‘ahead of schedule’
Griffin is working hard to get back onto the field for Washington, perhaps even by opening day.

Griffin sent the following text to Wingo:
My knee is getting better every day. The doctors say I’m ahead of schedule. My goal is to return healthy in week one but if I’m not ready then i will wait until i am, however long that is. My first NFL season and my injury that ended it showed me a lot about the league, my team and myself. i know where my responsibility is within the dilemma that led to me having surgery to repair my knee and all parties involved know their responsibilities as well. I m looking forward to playing the game we all love so much again and not behind at the negative. thanks for the overwhelming level of support that i’ve received, sic em bears and hail to the redskins!!
Griffin tore his ACL against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Wild Card round last season after having issues with it late in the regular season. The knee was initially injured when he scrambled against the Baltimore Ravens in early December and was hit hard by defensive tackle Haloti Ngata.
Dr. James Andrews performed surgery on Griffin to repair the knee and has kept tabs on him since, calling his recovery “superhuman” a few days ago.
It was thought at first that Griffin would have a very outside chance of starting on opening day for the Redskins, but now that’s much more debatable.
Should Griffin not be able to make it back in time, second-year quarterback Kirk Cousins out of Michigan State would be the starter. Last year, Cousins was excellent in a relief role, beating the Cleveland Browns in his only start.
