Bears, G Matt Slauson agree to 1-year contract

Chicago had a missing piece up front, and the team addressed that by adding Matt Slauson.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The Chicago Bears agreed to terms on a one-year contract with offensive lineman Matt Slauson, the team announced Friday. Financial details have not yet been released. Slauson spent the previous four seasons playing for the New York Jets.

The Bears lost starting guard Lance Louis to the Dolphins earlier in the free agency period, and Slauson is expected to step into that role. Slauson is 27 years old but brings plenty of experience to Chicago despite a relatively short career; he started 48 games for the Jets over the last three seasons and appeared in 51 games overall while with that team. He was considered one of the top remaining free agent guards available by Pro Football Focus.

Slauson was the center of some controversy last season after a cut block he made on Texans linebacker Brian Cushing resulted in a torn left ACL for Cushing. Slauson was fined $10,000 by the NFL for the hit.
