Carson Palmer trade rumors: Cardinals looking into acquiring QB

With Arizona allegedly looking to acquire a quarterback and Seattle and Oakland rumored to have an outline of a deal for QB Matt Flynn, Carson Palmer may find himself traded to Arizona.

The Arizona Cardinals continue to look at acquiring Oakland Raiders quarterback Carson Palmer, according to Mike Jurecki of AM 910 Radio in Phoenix.

According to Jurecki, the deal would come with the condition Palmer restructures his contract. The compensation would be conditional draft picks.

The Raiders traded for Palmer in 2011, giving up a first-round pick in 2012 and a second-round pick in this year’s draft. Palmer is scheduled to make $13 million in 2013 and he isn’t willing to restructure it in Oakland.

Palmer is 8-16 as a starter in Oakland, throwing for 6,771 yards, 36 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. He’ll turn 34 years old during the 2013 season.

Oakland is said to be looking to make a deal with Seattle for their back-up quarterback, Matt Flynn, who was brought in during free agency in 2012. He was beaten out for the job by rookie Russell Wilson but still carries with him a starting quarterback's salary. It's less than what Palmer is scheduled to make, however.

Field Gulls editor Danny Kelly wrote Friday Oakland and Seattle have “agreed in principle” to a deal that would send Flynn to Oakland in exchange for draft picks. That would mark the end of Palmer’s time with the Raiders.

How much would the Cardinals be interested in bringing Palmer in to start? Revenge of the Birds editor Jess Root wrote new head coach Bruce Arians would want to start a rookie if they choose to draft one this April, and with the seventh overall pick, it would seem possible top QB prospect Geno Smith could be available.

The picks or conditional picks may be stretched into 2014, considering the market for Palmer may heat up or cool off depending on the draft. Flynn and Palmer are probably the only realistic quarterback targets available outside of the draft right now, and with a relatively uninspiring quarterback crop available in the draft, it may be enough to compel a swap of veterans between Arizona, Oakland and Seattle.
